Ag Time with Abby: Recreation and fun for the whole family while supporting FFA

WHEN I SAY we’re off to a great year, boy, oh boy, do I mean it! There are three big fundraising events that our local FFA chapters are hosting, and I’m pretty stoked about them.

The first event is for Haines City High School. They are hosting their first golf tournament in recent years. This will go toward sending members to the National Convention in Indianapolis, so grab some friends and make up a team. Here is some key information you will need to know:

• Where is it located? The golf tournament will take place at Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort in Haines City.

• When? On October 8, which should be a nice fall Saturday. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun will go off at 8:30 a.m.

• How much? The price will be $55 per person, $220 for a team of four people.

There will be many different prizes for everyone, including the following:

• First-place payback

• Longest drive

• Closest to pin

• Raffle prizes

• Mulligans

• 50/50 raffle

There are also hole sponsorships available for $100. To sign up your team, donate raffle prizes, or sponsor a hole, please contact one of the following people:

• Jennifer Dunnahoe at (863) 287-8367

• Tiffany Dunnahoe at (863) 287-9654

• Or you can email me! (See my bio.)

The next event that is being hosted in Polk and will be at Warner University! On October 14-15, they will be hosting a Fall Festival/Pumpkin Patch. The pumpkin sale will be all day Friday, followed by the actual festival Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. There will be games such as ring toss, duck bobbing, bowling, face painting, etc. The best part is that admission is free. The pumpkins will come in various sizes and prices ranging from $1 to $7. It is going to be tons of fun, and the whole community is invited to join Warner for this fun-filled family event!

Following that event will be the national convention. This is an event that FFA members across the nation are anticipating! And the location has moved! It’s now in Indianapolis! I’m beyond excited to join members from across the nation who all share the same love and passion for ag as I do! I’ll see you all in Indy from October 19-22.

When we return from that, we will be hitting Lake Shipp on October 29 for Auburndale FFA Fishing Tournament! What time do you need to be there? If you plan on fishing, be there at safe light! It will end around 2 p.m. The total cost is $50 per boat and $10 per boat for biggest fish.

How are the payouts looking this year, you might ask? How does $1,000 sound? That’s right! You don’t have to go back and reread that sentence! I’ll write it again: FIRST PLACE RECEIVES A $1,000 PAYOUT! Second goes home with $600, and third will take $200! A fun day fishing with the chance to come home with $1,000? Yeah, I’ll be there! If you would like to participate, please email me and let me know so I can get you set up.

I’m so excited for our upcoming month in Polk County FFA. It’s going to be a great and successful month! I’ll catch y’all next month with a new spotlight on one of our local FFA chapters. In the meantime, while these Florida rains may be messing up your weekend plans, just remember the farmers need it. Enjoy the food on your table while thanking a farmer!
