I OFTEN FIND THE SUMMER months are a time to get around to those matters that have otherwise been pushed to the back burner. If you’ve said, “I really need to join Farm Bureau,” but haven’t made it a priority, now is a great time to join. Vehicle purchase discounts, sporting event discounts, Grainger product discounts, and travel discounts are just a sample of the benefits of Farm Bureau membership. The “voice of agriculture” is only as loud as the strength of its membership, and your participation is necessary to continue to ensure that the agriculture message is heard. If you’re not currently a member, please join today by contacting any of our local branch offices
or carolem@pcfb.org.
With recent Independence Day celebrations and as the election season begins to crank up, our thoughts turn to civic duties and responsibilities. Regardless of our individual positions and opinions,
each and every one of us has a responsibility to participate in our electoral process. In Polk, we are fortunate to have elected officials who acknowledge the role of agriculture in the continued economic stability of our community. However, we can never take this for granted and should strive to stay actively engaged in the decisions that are being made that might affect our businesses and our community.
We’d like to congratulate PCFB Past President Larry Black on his recent election to the position of President of Florida Citrus Mutual. This is a critical industry role and the leadership of someone of Larry’s intellect and passion for agriculture is imperative, now more than ever. Congratulations Larry, and thank you for your continued service to the industry!
I’d also like to congratulate our Polk County Young Farmer and Rancher Committee as they were recently recognized with the Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Activity Award. The YF&R Activity Award is bestowed upon those county YF&R committees who showcase exemplary efforts and participation in their activities throughout the year, with their focus on preserving individual freedoms and expanding opportunities in agriculture through educational, professional, and leadership development. Congratulations Polk YF&R!
Team and sponsor registration is now open for the YF&R and Women’s Committee Sporting Clay Shoot Fundraiser on Saturday, September 13 at Fish Hawk Sporting Clays. Proceeds from the event will be used to support additional YF&R Scholarships for high school seniors and for the Wild Game Food Bank, a local organization that coordinates the donation, processing, and distribution of wild game harvests to feed those in need. For more information or to get registered for this event, contact Carole McKenzie at carolem@pcfb.org or call (863) 533-0561, ext. 111.
Sincerely,
KYLE R. STORY
President, Polk County Farm Bureau
