Manufacturing is on the rise across the United States – and Polk County stands out as one of its biggest success stories. Polk has transformed itself into a hub for advanced manufacturing, producing everything from sterile IV fluids to high-grade steel.
Advanced manufacturing is one of Polk’s targeted industries, and it’s growing faster here than the state average – up 2%. Today more than 20,000 people work in Polk’s manufacturing sector, which is the county’s third-largest job creator.
Polk’s prime location in the heart of Florida provides access to 11.8+ million people within a 100-mile radius, along with major highways, rail lines, and ports. These advantages, coupled with available land, lower taxes, and a business-friendly climate supported by targeted economic incentives, make Polk an ideal destination for manufacturers
The results speak for themselves: manufacturing activity fuels Polk’s GDP, grossing over $4B for our local economy. Polk has seen a 5.9% increase over the past year and a remarkable 27.4% growth over the last decade. Companies such as Nucor Steel Florida and Assure Infusions have invested heavily here, while longtime employers like Publix continue to expand operations.
Polk County’s workforce is also keeping pace. Local technical colleges and higher-ed institutions partner with industry leaders to ensure a qualified talent pipeline is trained in the skills needed for today’s modern and advanced manufacturing careers.
Continuing to diversify Polk’s economy, this momentum strengthens the community – bringing more jobs, higher wages and a broader tax base that supports enhanced infrastructure, schools, public service, parks and more. Manufacturing isn’t just growing in Polk County – it is driving a stronger, more resilient future for its residents.
