President’s Letter

Hello and well wishes from Polk County Farm Bureau.

We recently submitted our County Recognition Program Application to Florida Farm Bureau.  For those who may not be familiar with this program, this is our opportunity to share our county members’ many great agriculture advocacy efforts in the areas of Public Relations, Leadership Development, Organizational Management, Legislative/Policy and Agriculture Education. We are always amazed at our members’ accomplishments and passion for the agriculture community as we put this record together each year. I want to thank all of our member volunteers who make it possible for Polk County Farm Bureau to rise above, year after year.

We will hold our Annual Youth Speech Contest on Tuesday, August 20 at 4 p.m. in the Brenneman Room at the Polk County Extension office, 1702 US Highway 17, Bartow. This year’s speech topic is “How does Florida Farm Bureau Federation Help Connect Youth With the Agriculture Industry?”  The contest is open to students ages 14 – 18 and is sponsored by the Florida Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Program. The purpose of this contest is to promote a stronger interest and clearer understanding of the many aspects of agriculture; to provide opportunities for our youth to gain knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of agriculture; and help to promote agriculture’s many values and virtues. Students compete at the county level first, winners proceed to the district level, and district winners to the state competition. Prize money is awarded to the top three performers in both the intermediate and senior divisions. The Speech Packet and Application can be found at https://floridafarmbureau.org/student-contests. Please send the application page of the contest packet to Sarah True at saraht@pcfb.org by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 16. Call Sarah at 863-533-0561, ext. 112 with any questions.
