At Central Florida Ag News, we’re huge advocates of youth getting involved in agriculture, so of course we love to highlight FFA activity and achievements. But if you think FFA is the only option for getting your child involved in agriculture, your kids could be missing out on other great opportunities.
4-H, which is America’s largest youth development organization, is not only about raising animals or participating in agriculture. 4-H also offers kids a way to explore areas like science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and even civic engagement to develop their skills.
According to the organization’s website, kids in 4-H are four times more likely to give back to their communities, two times more likely to make healthier choices, and two times more likely to participate in STEM activities. Plus it gives kids the chance to learn by doing, giving them real world experience.
From leadership to public speaking, community service, and civic engagement, kids learn skills that will be beneficial no matter their direction in life. In fact, a recent UF/IFAS article highlighted how 4-H has given young adults the entrepreneurial tools to go on to launch their own businesses.
There’s a world of opportunities just waiting to be explored, and 4-H is one more great way to get your kids out into that world.
