by KENDAL FARRAR, Bok North FFA Reporter
While most students were soaking up the sun or relaxing by the pool, Bok North FFA members were rolling up their sleeves. From early mornings at the land lab to preparing speeches and bonding as a team, this summer was anything but slow. Here’s a look at what kept our chapter “all in” during these action-packed months.
Rising to the Challenge: Farm Bureau Speech Contest
FFA President Isabell McKeon is gearing up to compete in the Florida Farm Bureau Public Speaking Contest. Her topic, “The Challenges Facing Florida Agriculture,” is timely and impactful. Isabell has been working closely with advisors Ms. Williams and Ms. Neal to perfect every word of her memorized speech. Through this process, she’s gained valuable public speaking experience and a deeper understanding of the agricultural issues our state faces. We’re proud of her dedication and can’t wait to cheer her on!
Land Lab Upgrades: Bigger, Better, and Cleaner
Two intensive cleanup days transformed our land lab into a more efficient, welcoming space for both animals and students. We built new hog pens, reorganized existing structures, and implemented better methods to keep our rabbits cool during the Florida heat. One exciting new addition: Rosie, a Brangus-cross heifer who will be shown by our chapter chaplain, Jackson. With these upgrades, we’re fully prepped and energized for the new school year.
Piglets Are Here!
Our advisor, Ms. Williams, has been caring for an adorable new litter of piglets. These little ones are nearly ready for students looking to show hogs this year. If you’re interested in purchasing one, don’t wait too long—these future champions won’t last!
Back to School, Back to Work
Excitement is building as we head into the new school year. Our ag department is introducing new classes for eighth graders, including Foundations and a Research course designed to prepare students for CDEs and preliminary competitions. We’ve also made changes in the land lab layout to better support hands-on learning for all students and staff.
Officer Retreat: Bonding in the Sunshine State
This month, our newly elected officer team headed to Kissimmee for a much-needed retreat. Staying together in an Airbnb, the team enjoyed pool time, water park fun, and delicious homemade meals. We also got down to business—planning the year, organizing our binders, and taking team headshots for future promotions. The trip ended with a movie night and a game of hide and seek that had everyone laughing. The retreat was a perfect blend of fun, friendship, and future planning.
Kids on the Way: Baby Goats Incoming
We’re expecting a whole new generation of show-quality goats next month! Our does—Bambi, Margo, Gracie, and another large female—are due soon. Three of the four will be dairy goats, while one will be a meat goat. We’re excited to see these beautiful babies hit the ground and grow into future show stars.
The Bok North Podcast Returns
Our all-boys podcast crew is bringing back the Bok North FFA podcast—bigger and better than ever. This year, we’ll be inviting special guests to discuss hot topics in agriculture and highlight FFA activities both locally and nationally. Our goal? To educate, entertain, and inspire others to join the FFA movement. Stay tuned for the relaunch!
Celebrating Community: Alumni Kickoff Bash
The Lake Wales FFA Alumni will soon host their annual Back-to-School Bash—a fun-filled event to celebrate the return to school and our shared passion for agriculture. It’s a great chance to reconnect, enjoy a delicious meal, and map out the year ahead. We’re grateful for their continued support and look forward to celebrating with them.
One Incredible Summer
From hands-on work in the barn to leadership development and chapter planning, this summer was packed with growth, learning, and excitement. Even when school’s out, Bok North FFA members never stop working hard. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and even more excited for the journey ahead. Bring on the school year—we’re ready to ACTIVATE our potential!
