Hello and well wishes from Polk County Farm Bureau

In addition to Mother’s Day, and this edition of Central Florida Ag News celebrating Women in Agriculture, the month of May brings many opportunities to observe agriculture-related festivities. A great way to stay in the know of festivities and events is by following us on Facebook! Here are just a few reasons to celebrate the month of May:

National Beef Month – The entire month of May each year

National Orange Juice Day – May 4

National Teacher Appreciation Week – May 4 -8

World Bee Day – May 20

National Hamburger Day – May 28

May is also graduation month for high school and college seniors. Our congratulations to all Polk County graduating students and their families!

We recently held our Harvest Celebration fundraising event on May 10 at Venue 650 in Winter Haven, and a great time was had by all. This is a critical fundraising event for Polk County Farm Bureau as the proceeds from this event benefit our agriculture education objectives and help us protect and promote farmer and rancher businesses in Polk County. Our very special thanks to all who attended and supported the event.

Florida Farm Bureau has announced this year’s Youth Speech Contest topic, “How does Florida Farm Bureau Federation help connect youth with the agriculture industry?”  The contest is open to students ages 14 – 18 and is sponsored by the Florida Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Leadership Program. The purpose of this contest is to promote a stronger interest and clearer understanding of the many aspects of agriculture; to provide opportunities for our youth to gain knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of agriculture; and help to promote agriculture’s many values and virtues. Students compete at the county level first, winners proceed to the district level, and district winners to the state competition. Polk County Farm Bureau’s Youth Speech Contest will be held Tuesday, August 20 beginning at 4 p.m. in the Brenneman room at the Polk County Extension Office. To register or for more information, contact Sarah True at Saraht@pcfb.org or 863-533-0561, ext. 112.
