President’s Letter

We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends and found plenty to be thankful for. Our Polk Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee celebrated Thanksgiving and Farm-City Week by holding a donation drawing where proceeds were used to purchase 72 turkeys distributed to local families in need through Feeding Tampa Bay and the Dream Center of Lakeland. The donation drawing prize of a Bear Archery Legit RTH Compound Bow saw all 150 tickets sold! Thank you to all who purchased tickets! A special thanks also to Adventures Archery Lakeland, AgAmerica Lending, and Crosby & Associates for their contributions to this effort. We look forward to continuing this event for years to come!

As you prepare to celebrate Christmas and the month of our Savior’s birth, be sure to incorporate fresh local Florida produce and protein into your holiday meals. A complete list of all in-season options can be found at Followfreshfromflorida.com.

Speaking of local food sourcing, Polk County Farm Bureau has joined local chefs, educators, and marketing and economic development professionals in a stakeholder group led by Visit Central Florida to pursue the development of culinary- and agriculture-related tourism in our area. Top local chefs are currently seeking to develop partnerships with local agriculture producers to create Farm to Fork type co-ops that will support this initiative. If you are a local producer interested in learning more, please contact Carole McKenzie at carolem@pcfb.org.

Polk County Farm Bureau is hiring! We have two open positions at our Bartow location.  We are now scheduling interviews for the positions of Farm Bureau Federation Program Coordinator, and Farm Bureau Insurance Member Services Representative. For more information on these open positions, contact Carole McKenzie at carolem@pcfb.org
