While I could use this space to inform you of the many year-end tax planning opportunities that you can take adavantage of, I think it’s most important to pause and reflect on the things that matter most this time of year. Some of my most cherished memories are of family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and great food is always a part of those memories. I grew up always looking forward to my mom’s fruit salad loaded with fresh citrus, berries, and coconut for breakfast on Thanksgiving. While we all have different family traditions and celebrations this time of year, the one ingredient that seems to be constant in any celebration is great food.
It is easy for us to focus on the challenges that lay waiting for us like healthcare, taxes, regulations, citrus greening and canker . . . and the list goes on and on. I would like to take this opportunity to challenge all of us to spend time reflecting on the blessings we have received this year, and the sacrifices that have been made for us to enjoy these holidays with our loved ones. As we gather at our dinner tables this holiday season to eat and solve the world’s problems, remember that it’s easy to complain about these things with a belly full of food. I want to say “thank you” to the farmers, producers, and everyone else who goes to great lengths to allow us to have great food on our tables this holiday season.
