As the school year comes to a close, Bok North FFA reflects on a May filled with celebration, accomplishment, and moments that truly define who we are as a chapter. My name is Chloe Gavin, and I am honored to serve as your 2026–2027 Bok North FFA Chapter Reporter. I look forward to sharing the stories, achievements, and spirit of our members with our school, our community, and beyond.
This month marked the culmination of a year of growth — one shaped by dedication, teamwork, and the unwavering support of our families and community partners. It also marked a time of transition, celebration, and heartfelt goodbyes.
A Night to Remember: The 2025-2026 Chapter Banquet
On May 16, our chapter gathered at the First Baptist Church of Lake Wales for our annual Chapter Banquet, an evening dedicated to honoring the achievements of our members. More than 100 students were recognized for their accomplishments in Leadership Development Events, Supervised Agricultural Experiences, and Career Development Events. Families and guests enjoyed a beautifully prepared dinner, sponsored by Smokin’ Ox Premium BBQ, Mack Farms, and Ridge Youth Agriculture Foundation, LLC, surrounded by decorations crafted by our alumni and chapter volunteers.
Florida FFA Area 4 State Officer Clayton Keene and Area 4 State Officer Candidate Emily Diener delivered an inspiring message, followed by the retiring addresses of our eighth‑grade officers—words that captured the heart of what it means to be part of Bok North FFA.
Landen Atkins encouraged future members to “lead with purpose, stay humble, and make people feel valued,” a reminder of the kind of leadership that strengthens our chapter.
Mahleya Mitchell reflected on her journey, sharing that being an officer helped her “grow confidence, make new friends, and create so many fun memories,” urging younger members to embrace every opportunity. And Boston Hernandez reminded everyone that “the best parts of FFA always come after the hard parts,” encouraging students to step boldly into new challenges.
The evening concluded with the announcement of our 2026–2027 Bok North FFA Officer Team, who will lead our chapter into the coming year:

Final Fri‑YAY: A Day of Fun and Community
On May 22, the same day as our Royal Pig Challenge finale, our agriculture students and FFA members celebrated Final Fri‑YAY, a tradition that brings our program together for one last day of fun before summer. Students spent the day outside enjoying music, watermelon, sno‑cones, and time together—an afternoon filled with laughter, sunshine, and the kind of memories that make FFA more than just an organization.
The Royal Pig Challenge: A Fundraiser to Remember
This year’s Royal Pig Challenge was one of our chapter’s favorite fundraisers, helping us raise the money needed to attend the Florida FFA State Convention. Students cast their votes by placing donations into jars representing participating staff members, and the “winner” earned the honor of kissing Jilly, our Royal Pig.
After days of excitement and friendly competition, the moment finally arrived during Final Fri‑YAY. With the entire chapter cheering her on, our principal, Ms. Speed, stepped forward and kissed Jilly—bringing the fundraiser to a hilarious and unforgettable close.
A Community That Makes Everything Possible
This year, our chapter successfully raised the funds needed to attend the Florida FFA State Convention—an achievement made possible only through the generosity of our families, community members, and sponsors. Their support reflects the strength of agricultural education in Lake Wales and the belief in the opportunities FFA provides for young people.
Honoring Ms. Williams: Polk County Farm Bureau’s 2025–2026 Ag Teacher of the Year
This month also brought a moment of pride for our entire chapter as we celebrated Ms. Jennifer Williams, who has been named Polk County Farm Bureau’s 2025–2026 Agriculture Teacher of the Year. Her leadership has shaped Bok North’s agriculture program into a thriving, competitive, and community‑centered chapter.
Polk County Farm Bureau has long recognized outstanding agricultural educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching, advocacy, and student leadership. Ms. Williams’ recognition reflects her dedication to hands-on agricultural learning, her commitment to student success, and her impact on the broader agricultural community.
As she transitions to her new role at Bok Academy South, we celebrate her achievements and express our gratitude for the foundation she has built here at Bok North. Her influence will continue to guide our chapter for years to come.
Looking Ahead
Although we are sad to see this school year end, we are filled with excitement for what lies ahead. May has been a month of celebration, reflection, and joy—a fitting end to an incredible year. With new officers, new opportunities, and the continued support of our community, Bok North FFA is ready for another year of growth, leadership, and unforgettable memories.
