While most FFA members are gearing up for CDE season by studying for contests or prepping for show season with new market animals, we had some members who expressed what it means to be the heart of community engagement. On September 13, we had our annual Taste of Agriculture dinner and fundraiser dedicated to raising money and awareness. All the funds raised go directly to all the exhibitors of Polk County Youth Fair, helping cover the costs of awards, prizes, banners, lunches, buckles, and so much more.
Our volunteering members served a vital role in making this dinner a success, from serving food, greeting guests, selling raffle tickets, and assisting with cleanup. Thank you to the PCYF ambassadors that come from different FFA chapters around the county (Auburndale Sr., Bartow Sr., George Jenkins, Lakeland Christian, and Lake Wales). Another huge thank you to the FFA chapter officer teams that also stepped up to help volunteer (Lake Gibson Sr., Haines City, Winter Haven, Bartow Middle, Bok South, Bok North and Lucky A’s 4-H). Their efforts not only helped ensure a smooth event but also demonstrated the pride these youth organizations take when it comes to serving the community.
Likewise, this event highlighted why it’s important to bring awareness to our fair and how much it relies on organizations like FFA and 4-H. By our members stepping up and us having this event, we can keep traditions alive and see the next generation of agriculture leaders in action.
Through their involvement, members showed what it means to be dedicated to FFA and its mission for service. This event showed more than hard work, it showed what happens when young leaders come together for a common cause. By giving back to their community, FFA members strengthened not only the fair, but also the bonds between chapters. Events like this remind us that FFA isn’t just about competitions and meetings; it’s about leadership, service, and making a lasting difference.
Even though leadership in volunteering is important, participating in contests also has great benefits! Most recently was the Opening and Closing Ceremony contest for Polk County. This is open to high school and middle school FFA teams, but only Middle School advances to states. This contest allows FFA members to be able to properly open and close a meeting. This event was held at Warner University on September 25. Thank you Bok North for hosting. Our first-place winner for High School is Auburndale Sr. FFA, and our first-place winner for Middle School is Bok North FFA. Congratulations to both teams!
