These upcoming industry leaders are continuously engaged in promoting our industry. Christian not only serves as the state YF&R committee president, he also has recently given his time to serve as the voice of “Captain Citrus” for the Florida Department of Citrus. Jamie Lang recently represented Polk County Farm Bureau at the Florida Farm Bureau Field to the Hill event, and Shelby Oesterreicher served as a Florida Farm Bureau Field to the Hill intern. In May, the Polk YF&R group held a continuing education tour hosted by the Lightsey Cattle Company. Our special thanks to the Lightsey family for hosting this great event! Congratulations to each of our YF&R members for all of their efforts. We look forward to many more great things to come!

The Polk YF&R Committee is open to all Farm Bureau members age 18 to 35 who are interested in continuing agriculture education and networking opportunities with their peers. To join Polk YF&R, contact Christian Spinosa at cspinosa7@gmail.com.

We were pleased to present two Young Farmer & Rancher Scholarships at the recent monthly Young Farmer & Rancher Committee meeting. Congratulations to Bailey Buchanon and Josie Lynn Chandler on their achievements. We had many amazing applicants for the scholarship this year and congratulate each of our applicants for their outstanding contributions to our Polk agriculture community.

Team and sponsor registration is now open for the Second Annual YF&R and Women’s Committee “Hunger Shoot-Out” sporting clays tournament benefiting the Young Farmer & Rancher Scholarship Fund and the Wild Game Food Bank. This year’s fundraising event will take place on Saturday, September 19, at Fish Hawk Sporting Clays. Proceeds from the event will be used to support additional YF&R Scholarships for high school seniors and for the Wild Game Food Bank, a local organization that coordinates the donation, processing, and distribution of wild game harvests to feed those in need. For more information or to get registered for this event, visit www.pcfb.org or contact Lori Kuehl at lorik@pcfb.org or call (863) 533-0561, ext. 112.

Sincerely,
