BARTOW, Fla. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its final citrus crop forecast for the 2024-2025 harvest season July 11, projecting 12.15 million boxes of oranges. Additionally, the USDA forecasted 1.3 million boxes of grapefruit and 400,000 boxes of tangerines and tangelos.
This month’s forecast reflects an increase in production of oranges and a steady production of grapefruit, tangerines and tangelos since the June 2025 citrus crop estimate, which estimated 12 million boxes of oranges, 1.3 million boxes of grapefruit and 400,000 tangerines and tangelos.
“The path forward for Florida’s citrus industry is bright with new opportunities for growth. Promising treatments for citrus greening, disease-tolerant citrus varieties, targeted state funds to support research and replanting, and federal disaster relief programs like the USDA’s Supplemental Disaster Relief Program will equip citrus growers with the resources they need to recover and rebuild,” said Matt Joyner, executive vice president and CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual. “The USDA’s July forecast of 12.15 million boxes marks the third consecutive month of production gains – an encouraging indicator that we’re on the path to a more resilient future. Our growers have shown incredible perseverance through citrus greening and hurricanes, and we remain hopeful that our growers can build on this momentum next season with continued improvements in tree health and fruit production.”
On Monday, June 30, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the Florida Legislature’s budget for the 2025-2026 state fiscal year, which began on July 1, and included nearly $140 million to support Florida’s citrus industry. This investment includes $104.5 million for basic research, field trials and replanting efforts to support recovery and revitalization of the Sunshine State’s citrus industry.
On Wednesday, July 9, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced the availability of more than $16 billion in assistance through the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) for agricultural producers who experienced eligible crop losses due to natural disasters in 2023 and 2024. SDRP will complement the forthcoming block grants that USDA is developing in collaboration with 14 states.
