Plant a beautiful fruit tree to honor National Arbor Day!

Top Ways To Honor National Arbor Day 2017

Arbor Day is a holiday typically celebrated by planting trees either at home or in your community. Check out our short list of ways to honor National Arbor Day!

National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday of April every year, but states recognize Arbor Day depending on the best time to plant trees in their climate. For Florida, we recognize Arbor Day on the third Friday of January. However, depending on the type of tree you would like to plant, anytime throughout the year can work. Also, with Mother’s Day approaching quickly, these may just be the perfect gift ideas to honor your mom with!

  1. Plant a tree

Planting a tree in honor of moms this National Arbor Day is a great way to celebrate. Planting shrubs and smaller trees are ideal during the month of April and going into May. Start searching what type of forage you want around your lawn so that you can purchase it at local sales. If you live in a neighborhood and want trees that offer a variety of shade, Crape Myrtles are beautiful when they flower over and would add wonderful curb appeal to your house- something to keep in mind if you ever think of selling your house.

  2. GardenFest: Bartow, Fl.

This weekend, April 29, is a. opportunity to purchase your perfect tree if you are in the Central Florida area. The 11th annual GardenFest is taking place at the Polk County Ag Center from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be Master Gardener volunteers on sight to help attendees select the best tree or flowers for their yard and to answer any questions you may have. This event is free and you can purchase anything you may possibly need for your garden like pots, tools, flowers, trees, etc. at a reasonable price! There will also be free activities for children as well.

  3. Agriculture Festival: Dundee, Fl.

If you can’t make it to Bartow on Saturday, try heading to Dundee from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. for their inaugural Agricultural Festival featuring local peach, citrus, and blueberry growers. Maybe you’re looking into fruit trees instead of ornamental trees to purchase for your mom, this is the best event for you to go to. It will be held at the Lake Marie Park in Dundee and there will be fruit trees available for purchase. There will also be a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. for just $5 and at 12:00 a “Bake Your Heart Out” contest for jams, jellies and pies.

Happy National Arbor Day everyone! Enjoy your weekend festivities planting or purchasing trees for the upcoming Mother’s Day!
