Equine Papers, Please

A More Convenient Option for Supporting Documents During Intrastate and Interstate Travel

For many Florida horse owners who travel from county to county and state to state, there is a more convenient way to keep your paper shuffling and wasted time to a minimum. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services offers two different cards that act as a digital picture of your horse which is an alternative to the VS form 10-11 (Coggins test) paper and the Equine Event Extension. This alternative to the old paper methods are a happy alternative for many horse owners who are constantly on the go.[emember_protected custom_msg=”Click here and register now to read the rest of the article!”]
For those who stay mostly within the borders of Florida, the Negative EIA Test Verification Card can be used as proof of a negative Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) test in Florida. Both the card and the original Coggins reporting form have the same expiration date. To keep your paperwork worries to a minimum, this laminated card is a great way to ensure you don’t leave important documents behind or lose them while you’re on the road.
While traveling out of Florida with your horse in tow, the Equine Interstate Passport Card can be used at many participating states as a proof of a negative EIA test and an Official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) within the preceding six months. For those horse owners who frequent equine events in those states that participate with the program, the card can replace both the OCVI and EIA tests filing. The states currently honoring the Florida Equine Passport Card are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Since the card contains the OCVI, EIA, and veterinarian information, the owner can leave the paperwork at home and focus on more important things.
When we live in a time of ever increasing paperwork that has begun to dominate almost all aspects of life, this is one convenience that is designed to make traveling a little easier.
